The Department of Health and the Grow.Eat.Save Programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is launching the 2024 Bermuda Parish Garden Competition, themed 'Let's Grow Together’. This initiative encourages residents and organizations to participate in various categories, including School Garden, Community Garden, Non-Traditional Garden, Small Garden, and Large Garden.
The competition is scheduled from March 25 to June 7, and you can register to participate from March 4 to 22. Interested participants can register at forms.gov.bm/gardencompetition.
Minister of Health Kim Wilson, JP, MP, expressed her enthusiasm, sharing her positive experience from the 2023 Grow, Eat, Save workshop. “Gardening is quite rewarding, both in promoting healthier living and addressing food insecurity. I encourage those without gardens to start one, not only does it promote healthy living, but it is also fun. I am grateful to Chaplin Dr. Kevin Santucci and all contributors to the project.”
Chaplin Dr. Kevin JT Santucci, a dedicated member of the community, is deeply involved in supporting various Department of Health initiatives focused on Food Security. His vision for the Bermuda Parish Gardening Competition aims to celebrate individuals who have proactively cultivated their own gardens, promoting self-sustainability and emphasizing the importance of food production to ensure accessibility, availability, and affordability of fruits and vegetables for themselves and their families.
Chaplin Dr. Kevin JT Santucci is the primary facilitator of the Grow Eat Save program, geared to commence in September 2024 with the assistance of other volunteer teachers.
Entrants for the 2024 Bermuda Parish Garden Competition are required to submit garden photos by the deadline. Additionally, Chaplin Dr. Kevin Santucci will conduct a free 8-week gardening workshop to enhance participants' gardening skills.
