On August 29th, the Economic Development Department (EDD) awarded Certificates of Completion to 22 participants of the 2024 FinTech Training Programme. Designed to equip Bermudians with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving FinTech industry, this initiative, now in its third year, has increased in popularity, doubling the number of participants.
In his address to the graduates, The Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, emphasized the programme's significance: "Bermuda is recognized as a world-leading jurisdiction in providing regulatory clarity to digital finance. As this sector expands, Bermudians must be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to seize these opportunities."
The three-month-long FinTech Training Programme, led by the EDD in collaboration with the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and industry leaders, consists of three key components:
-
Online FinTech Curriculum: Participants completed globally recognized FinTech courses, chiefly among them two courses offered by the Centre for Finance, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (CFTE), which provided a strong foundation for understanding how technology is modernizing financial systems.
-
Professional Development Modules: DWD offered twelve self-paced courses, which covered critical skills like project management, cybersecurity, and digital citizenship, preparing participants for real-world challenges in technology-driven environments.
-
Networking Opportunities: Participants engaged with industry leaders and executives from local tech and FinTech companies, gaining invaluable insights and building professional connections.
Tram-Anh Nguyen, co-founder of CFTE, congratulated the graduates, stating, "I warmly congratulate all the students who completed the CFTE Fintech 360 and Regtech programmes. These courses have equipped them with the skills and knowledge to excel in the fast-evolving financial sector, covering the latest trends in Finance, Technology, Fintech, and Regtech. I'm pleased they are now ready to begin their Fintech journey and join a global community of practitioners. A special thanks to the Bermuda Government's Economic Development Department for their trust in CFTE and their commitment to empowering Bermudians in the burgeoning fintech sector."
Maryem Biadillah, Acting Director of the EDD, also congratulated the cohort and acknowledged the partners who contributed to the programme's success. "I look forward to seeing how you will contribute to Bermuda's future," she said. "Our many partners have been instrumental in making this programme as valuable as it has been."
Graduates of the programme also shared their positive experiences. Jeff Lewis remarked, "The FinTech Programme represents a cutting-edge learning experience, thoughtfully designed and well-managed from start to finish." Vincent Darrell added, "As an entrepreneur, staying informed about the evolving FinTech landscape in Bermuda is crucial. This programme has been eye-opening."
The Bermuda Government remains committed to providing its citizens with the education and training needed to excel in this dynamic field, ensuring Bermuda continues to lead globally in the FinTech sector.
