Community Members Invited to Share Their Stories

The Bermuda National Library, in partnership with WalkTogetherBermuda, Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda (CURB), the Department of Culture, and the Human Rights Commission, is seeking volunteers to serve as "Books" for its upcoming Human Library event this September.

The Human Library is an international movement designed to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and foster empathy through one-on-one or small group conversations. Instead of reading printed pages, participants "check out" people—Living Books—who share their real-life stories, perspectives, and experiences.

"This is an opportunity for Bermudians to connect through a shared humanity and open dialogue," said a Library spokesperson. "We are seeking diverse voices and stories—of resilience, identity, change, and lived experience—that help us understand one another better."

Previous participants described the experience as deeply meaningful: "The library felt like a safe place to share," said one Book. "Only those who genuinely wanted to understand my journey checked me out, and that made all the difference."

If you have a story that challenges assumptions or opens hearts and minds, consider becoming a Living Book. To get involved, email libraryevents@gov.bm or call 295-2905. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

To learn more, the public is invited to attend one of two information sessions at the Bermuda National Library in Hamilton on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM and 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

Let's come together to celebrate our stories and write a new chapter of understanding in Bermuda.
