Government Stands Ready to Assist Seniors in Need of Housing

Housing and Municipalities

The Ministry of Housing and Municipalities wishes to address recent media reports about the housing situation of two seniors.

First and foremost, we want to acknowledge the very real difficulties these individuals are facing. No one in our community should worry about where they will sleep at night, and we recognise the stress and uncertainty that housing insecurity brings, especially for older residents.

The Bermuda Housing Corporation (BHC) has been actively working with these two individuals and has offered accommodation through its available housing resources. These offers remain open and would provide immediate, safe housing. However, for personal reasons, these options have not yet been accepted, and their officers remain in contact, continuing to provide guidance and support.

We understand that location, transportation, and personal needs can all influence housing decisions, and the BHC and BHT will continue working with them to find the best possible outcome.

The Ministry, BHC, and the seniors dedicated Bermuda Housing Trust (BHT) remain committed to supporting all Bermudians experiencing housing challenges. We encourage anyone in need of housing assistance to contact BHC or BHT so that they can explore the right solutions using their resources.

Our seniors are valued members of our community, and we will continue to do all we can to ensure their well-being and dignity are protected.
