The Ministry of Public Works and Environment advises the public that while Hurricane Gabrielle continues to move away from our area, the system has generated dangerous ocean conditions around Bermuda.
At Horseshoe Bay today, a red flag is flying to indicate the highest hazard level for water conditions. Lifeguards remain on duty until 6:00 p.m. today and will resume their normal hours tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Members of the public are strongly urged not to enter the water, particularly along the south and east-facing shores, where rough surf and rip currents are especially dangerous. Spectators are encouraged to admire the seas from a safe distance.
According to forecasts, ocean conditions are expected to gradually improve tomorrow, at which point high-surf warning signage will be reviewed and removed if safe to do so.
The public is reminded to continue monitoring the Bermuda Weather Service forecast when planning visits to the beach.
