Information and Communication Technology contributed 3.1% to GDP

Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, released the 2024 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Profile from the Department of Statistics. 

The profile shows the core indicators on the use of ICT by businesses with comparisons between 2023 and 2024.

Highlighted below are some of the year-over-year changes:         

  • In 2024, the ICT sector accounted for 3.1 per cent of Gross Domestic Product in current prices, up from 2.8 per cent in 2023.
  • Capital investment in ICT decreased 4.8 per cent from $60.9 million to $58.0 million.
  • Bermuda’s ICT trade deficit expanded 1.4 per cent and stood at $124.8 million in 2024.
  • The leading use of the internet by businesses was sending and receiving e-mails (90.2 per cent).
  • Among ICT-related jobs, software and application developers and analysts earned the highest gross median annual income of $132,000 in 2024, an increase of 6.9 per cent year-over-year.
