Corrections instructors from Bermuda, Turks and Caicos, and the Cayman Islands recently participated in tactical force training hosted by the Bermuda Department of Corrections (BDOC).

The UK Ministry of Justice Overseas Territories Justice Programme organised the Use of Force Instructor Revalidation Training. Instructors Razvan Chirica and Dave Clarricoates of the National Tactical Response Group (NTRG), a specialist unit of His Majesty's Prison Service, led the training.

Instructors were trained on the latest use of force and received a syllabus for training corrections staff within their respective territories. At the end of the training, the instructors’ qualifications were revalidated with a consistent standard of training that promotes safety and professionalism.

Commissioner of Corrections, Keeva Joell-Benjamin, stated that training is part of the Department of Corrections' continuous professional development for officers and staff.

The Commissioner added, "We are committed to the safety of our officers, staff, and inmates. This course emphasises the importance of being prepared to manage diverse situations encountered during their duties."

"The Department of Corrections remains focused on ongoing development and maintaining high standards to ensure the safety and security of officers, staff and inmates. The Department thanks the local dojo owner for their support and to all involved in delivering this training experience."
