
Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour released the September 2024 Retail Sales Index publication (attached).
September's volume of retail sales index decreased 0.9 per cent compared to last year. In value terms, retail sales increased to an estimated $100.7 million.
Four of the seven sectors recorded a year-over-year volume index increase in September 2024:
- The Food Stores' sales volume grew 1.8 per cent.
- The Service Station's sales volume increased 1.1 per cent.
- In the All Other Store Types sector (comprising stores selling household items, furniture, appliances, electronics, pharmaceuticals and tourist-related goods), there was a 0.2 per cent growth in sales volume.
The following sectors had a decrease in sales volume compared to the previous year:
- The Liquor Stores' sales volume fell 10.3 per cent.
- The sales volume for Building Material Stores decreased 12.0 per cent.
- The sales volume at Apparel Stores decreased 3.8 per cent.
Selected overseas declarations increased by 38.3 per cent compared to September 2023.
