Yesterday (July 25), the Department of Sport and Recreation hosted its annual Mini-Cup Match at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club.

And following a hard-fought game, Somerset emerged victorious (71 without loss), and hoisted the cup to claim bragging rights for the next year.

As the public is aware, each year Government’s Summer Day Camp (SDC) students gather to participate in Mini-Cup Match.

This year as part of an initiative to foster and develop the potential of young up and coming cricketers, the Department partnered with Coralisle Group Ltd. (CG) and the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) to shine a spotlight on the annual youth event.

Today, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Sen. Owen Darrell, JP said, “Mini Cup Match continues to grow in popularity. It’s an event that helps to build excitement for the upcoming holiday.

“Yesterday our youngsters played hard, and it was great to see the display of teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie. I want to especially thank our coaches, camp counsellors and our young people for their passion today. In particular I also wish to acknowledge CG and the BCB for their interest in this year's event and seeking to support our up and coming cricketers. With Cup Match less than a week away, this is the perfect event to get us ready. We look forward to seeing everyone making their way to Somerset next week to celebrate in this uniquely Bermudian event.”
