Yesterday (August 17), the Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason P Hayward, JP, MP, presented completion certificates to five (5) young Bermudians who recently finished their Renewable Energy Certified Solar Installer training. The programme provided theoretical and technical training and certification in the solar energy industry.
Minister Hayward commented, “This training aligns with the Ministry’s Economic Development Strategy-Priority 5: Investment in People, Bermuda’s Youth Employment Strategy and National Re-Employment Strategy to reduce youth unemployment and increase desirable training and employment outcomes.
“Through the Department of Workforce Development, we continue to equip young Bermudians with the necessary skillset, tools, and resources required by the industry and in current and emerging occupations in the local workforce. Congratulations to the young men who completed and passed this training.”
The participants were Kitori Smith-Tacklyn, Gian Carlos Gutierrez, Rayni Maybury, Jahvontae Trott and Malachi Hayward.
The Renewable Solar Energy training programme provided direct support for the growth and development of knowledge, application and career pathways for youth interested in becoming certified solar installers. And, by extension, increasing the capacity for installations of the renewable energy industry in the local workforce.
In affiliation and partnership with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), globally recognised in the renewable energy industry, participants had to pass the Introduction To Renewable Energy course before participating in the programme as trainees.
The four (4) week training programme included various installation worksites at businesses and homeowners' properties, allowing the trainees practical knowledge, understanding and hands-on training application and experience in the real world of work.
Mr Joshun Stovell, Owner of Enlightened Expertise, developed and delivered the Renewable Energy Solar Training Programme.
Four (4) trainees have completed interviews to secure full-time employment. The Department continues to work with employers and provide referrals for future employment opportunities.
