Throne Speech

Convening of Throne

Today, the Government of Bermuda will deliver its first Throne Speech following its re-election in February, setting out the legislative priorities for the upcoming parliamentary session.

This speech will highlight the new legislative initiatives the government will advance to build a fairer, more stable, and more affordable Bermuda. These initiatives will address critical issues such as housing and the cost of living and how the Government will support Bermudians through all stages of life.

This morning’s Throne Speech is not a repetition of the one delivered in November 2024. The priorities outlined in the 2024 speech remain on the Government’s agenda and will continue to progress alongside the new initiatives announced today.

Premier David Burt said, "Having delivered a comprehensive legislative agenda in the 2024 Throne Speech in November, the Government did not feel it was necessary to repeat all of those items in the speech that will be delivered today. Today’s Throne Speech is a continuation of the government’s work to deliver for the people.

"The people of Bermuda should know that items from the 2024 speech, such as enhancing FutureCare and HIP, capping pension fees, cutting red tape, expanding apprenticeships and training programmes, and ending homelessness, remain firmly on the Government's agenda.

"This Government has also been entrusted with a renewed mandate and new initiatives that the voters have endorsed and asked us to execute for them.

"Today’s Throne Speech reflects that trust and reaffirms our commitment to tackling the issues that matter to Bermudians and delivering on the promises made in our manifesto to build a fairer, more stable and affordable Bermuda for all.

"The Government looks forward to advancing these initiatives in the upcoming legislative session.”
