As part of his ongoing inaugural visit to Bermuda, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Bermuda, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mr. Dennis Zulu, continued his series of courtesy calls with senior Government ministers this week.
Following his earlier meeting with the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, Mr. Zulu held discussions with the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, and the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP.
Mr. Zulu’s broader portfolio includes providing UN support to Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, and Jamaica, with a strong focus on disaster preparedness, resilience, and social development.
Each minister welcomed the opportunity to engage with Mr. Zulu on matters of mutual interest and explore ways to strengthen collaboration with the United Nations.
Minister Furbert said: "Our discussion focused on social protection, equity and inclusion. It is heartening to know that the UN is committed to supporting vulnerable groups and youth development in Bermuda."
Minister Weeks commented: "We had a productive conversation around public safety, disaster preparedness and community resilience. We discussed training opportunities and how the UN supports Bermuda and other islands in our region in preparing for and responding to disasters.
The UN’s ongoing commitment to disaster management in the Caribbean is a valuable resource as we continue building local capacity."
The Government of Bermuda again extends its appreciation to Mr. Zulu and the United Nations for this important diplomatic engagement and looks forward to continued partnership as the visit progresses.
