The Official Signing of the Sargasso Sea Commission's Hamilton Declaration Agreement by the Government of Bahamas.

During a September visit to New York City, Minister Simons witnessed the signing of the Hamilton Declaration on Collaboration for the Conservation of the Sargasso Sea by The Bahamas. The Hon. Frederick A. Mitchell, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of The Bahamas signed the Declaration at The Bahamas Mission to the United Nations.  The Minister was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Ms. Marva-Jean O'Brien

The Hon. N. Cole Simons, JP, MP, was invited by the Director General of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to speak at their Congress entitled ”Planet at the Crossroads” held in Hawaii. The congress, held once every four years, was attended by 9500 people directly involved in conservation through multinational government, private and non-profit sectors.
