Pan American Health Organization’s Regional Representative Visits Bermuda
The Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) representative to Jamaica, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, Mr Ian Stein, wrapped up a two-day visit to the Island yesterday (June 7th).
Mr. Stein, who is based in Kingston, was appointed to the role last October and possesses substantial experience in developing and maintaining partnerships for health, the management of health crises and a range of areas including HIV/AIDS, immunisation and early childhood health.
During his visit, Mr. Stein met with a number of local officials including the Minister of Health the Hon. Kim Wilson JP, MP, the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ayoola Oyinloye, the Bermuda Hospital Board’s Director of Oncology Dr. Christopher Fosker, and the Director of the Department of Health David Kendell.
Minister Wilson said of the visit: “I am very happy to have welcomed Mr. Stein to the Island as he familiarises himself with the three regional countries under his PAHO/WHO remit.
“We were also keen to provide him with insight to Bermuda’s successful COVID-19 vaccination programme which has surpassed the World Health Organization’s goal of 70 percent immunisation of a population ahead of the June 30th target.
“We were pleased to have been recognised as a vanguard for this region in this regard.”
