1170 Doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine Available
The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce that there are currently 1170 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine available. The original expiration date was June 2022. However, the manufacturer has extended the shelf life past the original expiry date.
Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP explained: “Fortunately we did not destroy the doses that were left at the end of our mass vaccine programme last month. These doses have been well preserved in a sealed box in our ultra low temperature freezer, and are available from this week through participating pharmacies and GP offices. This supply of the coronavirus vaccine is available for:
· Students (18+) going to schools overseas
· Children over 16+/adults with underlying conditions
· Healthcare workers including BHB employees
· Essential workers
· Adults over 50 eligible for second or more boosters – 5 months since last dose
· Adults who got their first dose and not their second
· Adults eligible for first boosters
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ayoola Oyinloye said: “The Manufacturers did stability tests on their vaccines post marketing, and it has shown that the vaccines remained stable for longer than originally anticipated. We are expecting another 5800 adult and 400 children coronavirus vaccines at the end of September.”
Vaccines will be available through the Hamilton Health Centre for people without health insurance and those with HIP and FutureCare, by appointment only, no walk-ins.
