Gombey Festival Honourees
The Bermuda Gombey Festival is taking place this weekend, featuring a line up of Gombey performances, film premieres and entertainment by some of Bermuda's best and brightest talent.
In addition to the performances, there will be several individuals who will be honoured for their work with Bermuda's various Gombey troupes and for their contribution to our cultural legacy.
Later today, the Gombey Showcase gets underway at the Botanical Gardens Show Ring.
Today's Showcase will feature the following troupes:
• Place’s New Generation Gombeys – celebrating 65 years this year.
• Gombey Warriors- about to celebrate 11 years.
• H&H Gombeys- celebrating 28 years.
• Gombey Evolution Troupe- celebrating 7 years; and
• Warwick Gombeys- about to celebrate 23 years.
This is the first time in two years, that the festival has returned to an in person event, and all events are free to the public.
Minister Peets recently said, “The history of the Gombey is reflective of Bermuda’s cultural heritage and our Gombeys are Bermuda’s most recognisable and iconic cultural symbol. After a two-year hiatus, we are delighted to welcome back the Gombey Festival which has grown considerably over the years. And this weekend, we hope to see as many people as possible supporting these events.”
