Launch of “Healthy Horizons” Bermuda Health Strategy Updates Mailer
The Ministry of Health has launched the ‘Healthy Horizons’ Newsletter, a new publication that will be distributed throughout Bermuda. This newsletter will offer vital updates on the Bermuda Health Strategy 2022-2027 and the ongoing progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The ‘Healthy Horizons’ newsletter will provide accurate information and clarity on UHC aimed at informing residents while clarifying how UHC will enhance accessibility to core health services. The newsletter will be mailed to residents and businesses throughout the year and will be available for download from Latest Updates | Bda Health Strategy. It will also be provided to healthcare advocates to share with vulnerable members of our community who may not otherwise have access to the information.
“The ‘Healthy Horizons’ newsletter is intended to keep residents informed and ensures that the public stays updated on crucial health initiatives,” said Minister of Health, the Hon. Kim N. Wilson, JP, MP.
“Understanding the Bermuda Health Strategy 2022-2027 and the progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) helps residents stay engaged and aware of the efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and quality throughout the island. We want our residents to actively participate in and support health reforms directly impacting their well-being.
“The Bermuda Government has consistently demonstrated its commitment to transforming Bermuda’s health system. Our goal is to ensure that all Bermuda residents have access to essential high-quality health services without facing financial difficulties.
“While this is a multi-year process, significant progress has been made over the past two years. The Ministry and Health System Stakeholders have been working closely to implement the Bermuda Health Strategy and UHC. This work includes the initial mapping of three integrated care pathways, conducting a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, and the ongoing development of a National Digital Health Strategy for Bermuda. Results from these initiatives and invitations to participate, have been shared with the public through our media partners, the UHC Stakeholder network, and on the Health Strategy website (www.healthstrategy.bm).”
Minister Wilson continued, “However, it is imperative that we reach as many of our residents and businesses as possible to ensure there is a clear understanding of why we are implementing UHC in Bermuda and other reform initiatives. Everyone should have the opportunity to know how they will benefit from UHC and other health system reform efforts. Together, we can meet the goal of having a healthier Bermuda where everyone has access to the essential health services they need.”
ABOUT THE BERMUDA HEALTH STRATEGY AND UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE:
The Bermuda Health Strategy 2022 – 2027 (“The Health Strategy”) was developed as the next phase of work for the Ministry of Health as it works to achieve the vision of “healthy people in healthy communities”. The Health Strategy provides the frame to shift Bermuda’s health system as it works to implement Universal Health Coverage and shift to a more people-centered approach to healthcare that focuses on delivering better care that meets the needs of individuals and families today and into the future. Bermuda’s Universal Health Coverage programme is a multi-year, multi-phased initiative that seeks to ensure “all people have equitable access to needed informative, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative essential health services, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that people do not suffer financial hardship when paying for these services and critical medicines.”
