Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, Honours World Children’s Day
The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors proudly joins the global community, on November 20, in recognising World Children’s Day. This year’s theme, “My Day, My Rights”, serves as a powerful reminder that every child deserves to have their rights respected, protected, and upheld. These rights include safety, education, health, family, participation, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Children remind us of what possibility looks like. Their curiosity, creativity, and honesty challenge us to build a society grounded in fairness, compassion, and hope. As a community, we must ensure that every child in Bermuda is valued, heard, and supported so they may grow and thrive.
Over the past year, the Ministry has continued to strengthen its programmes and services to support the wellbeing and development of Bermuda’s young people. Two key programmes at the heart of this work are The Office of Youth Affairs (TOYA) and the Mirrors Programme, both of which contribute significantly to advancing children’s rights and opportunities. The Office of Youth Affairs continues to champion youth voice and participation through national youth policy development, youth engagement platforms, and leadership opportunities.
The Mirrors Programme further reflects our commitment to nurturing positive growth in young people. Through its coaching, personal development initiatives, and community service projects, Mirrors helps children and adolescents build resilience, confidence, and life skills. The programme’s focus on self-awareness, empowerment, and leadership directly supports the principle that every child has the right to personal growth and the tools to succeed.
Alongside these efforts, the Ministry continues to strengthen safeguarding measures, enhance child protection services, expand family support networks, and collaborate with schools, charities, and community organisations. We remain committed to advancing legislation, early intervention programmes, and mental health and social-emotional supports to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
We extend heartfelt appreciation to parents, guardians, educators, youth workers, social service professionals, and community partners whose dedication creates a strong foundation around our children.
On this World Children’s Day, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to advocating for and investing in the wellbeing of Bermuda’s children. Let us continue building a Bermuda where every child can dream freely and where those dreams have every chance to grow.
