Compostable Material
What is a compostable material?
Leaf, limb and garden waste from households, commercial properties, roadsides, and parks is accepted for composting and converted into a useful soil amendment.
Garden waste – public drop off
The Marsh Folly Composting Facility has a public drop off area which is free to residents who would like to drop off compostable garden waste. All other compostable waste from commercial sources must be taken across the site weighbridge and on to the main facility.
Compost collection
Free compost is available for collection on most days from the drop off area. Be sure to bring a bucket with you to make transportation easy.
Marsh Folly Composting Facility
With 365 growing days, Bermuda produces thousands of tonnes of garden waste each year. The Marsh Folly Composting Facility was established 32 years ago to help Bermuda manage garden waste and to produce a useful end-product: compost. Marsh Folly’s compost has been used in numerous landscaping projects across the island. Some may recall the Kindly Field Road verge was a rocky, dusty path before the application of compost and grass seed 20 years ago. Today it is a lush, green area enjoyed for outdoor recreation year-round.
Purchase a compost bin
The Ministry of Public Works and Environment sells compost bins for $80.00. To purchase a compost bin, call the Ministry of Public Works & Environment on 297-7842 and pay over the phone, or visit their front desk located on the 3rd floor of the main Post Office Building on the corner of Church and Parliament Street, Hamilton. Compost bins are collected by appointment only from a storage facility in Devonshire. Email waste@gov.bm for further information.
