Foreign Office Minister of State for the Overseas Territories Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon Visits Bermuda
UK Foreign Office Minister for the Overseas Territories Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon will visit Bermuda on the 25th April. During his visit, the Minister will meet members of the Government including the Premier, the Attorney General and the Leader of the Opposition.
He will also meet business leaders, members of civil society and those key officials responsible for ensuring the island’s disaster preparedness and maritime security.
The meetings will provide an opportunity to engage on a range of matters relating to the island’s economy and opportunities for future growth, including in the post-Brexit context. He will also be briefed on the capacity for the Royal Bermuda Regiment and Bermuda Police Service to assist its fellow Overseas Territories should a disaster occur.
In his meeting with civil society, the Minister will discuss Bermuda’s implementation of International Human Rights obligations and the challenges facing vulnerable groups.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Foreign Office Minister Lord Ahmad said:
“The UK remains committed to strong and positive relationships with the Overseas Territories now and following Brexit. We will continue to work in partnership with Bermuda in support of its security and prosperity. I look forward to engaging with its government, business leaders and members of civil society during my first visit to the island.”
